BARBARA JOAN FRITH
December 13 1954 – April 16 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Joan Frith (nee Hutchinson) on April 16th, 2021 after a courageous battle with Breast Cancer. Barb was surrounded by love in the comforts of her own home with her family by her side.
Barb was born in Edmonton, Alberta but raised in Lacombe, Alberta with her five siblings. Barb was a graduate of Olds College and went on to work with the RCMP dispatch team where she met the love of her life and devoted best friend, Steve Frith. The two quickly grew inseparable with a quick engagement and a beautiful lasting marriage of 40 years.
Barb was a beloved mother to Megan (Nicholas White) and Lauren (Tyler Chapman). As the girls grew older, moving away for post- secondary and into their own homes, daily face-time dates became a staple in their relationship, sharing all successes and challenges as a team. In 2017 Barb was given the greatest promotion of becoming a “Grams” with the birth of her pride and joy granddaughter Penelope Chapman. It is within our Sweet Pea that we can be reminded daily of all the positive attributes that Barb was.
Barb was predeceased by her father, Bill; mother, Joan (Speers); and sister, Jan (Kuefler). Left to cherish her memory are her two sisters and brother; Brenda Booth (Dale), Peggy Rivera (Julio), Ian Hutchinson. Not leaving out her two pet parrots; Squirt and Ruby.
Barb had a love for life like no other. She had an innate ability to provide a sense of calm and peace no matter what the circumstances may be. She could put a smile on a rock’s face. She had an extreme passion for wildlife. Every morning you would find her sipping coffee, watching the many birds feeding in their backyard with her fingers crossed for a visit from her favorite green lipped toad. This has been endearingly passed along to Sweet P who will chase away the black birds shouting “get” as Grams would once do.
We are forever indebted to the incredible staff at the Royal Victoria Regional Hospital who cheered Barb on in her courageous fight against cancer. We are grateful for the exceptional expertise and wonderful care and compassion of Sara (Dr. Rask, Oncologist) and Kelly (Dr. Emerson, Palliative care).
Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of life will follow at a later date. Donations can be made in honor of Barb with the Ride to Conquer Cancer supporting Princess Margaret Breast Cancer Research with her daughter Lauren riding for her 7th year in support of her mom at “Ride to Conquer Cancer Toronto; Rider Lauren Chapman or following link https://supportthepmcf.ca/ui/Ride21/pledge/sponsor/start
or to the Oncology Department at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.
If you have a fond memory of Barb and her contagious, sparkly smile, we ask that you raise a glass of your favorite drink and celebrate Barb’s life.
