1929 Robert 2022

Robert "Bob" Watson

1929 — January 1, 2022

Robert (Bob) passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the age of 93. He now joins his beloved wife and sweetheart of 75 years, Betty Watson (1931 - 2021), in Heaven.

Robert William Watson was born and raised in Galt (Cambridge) where he met Betty Ellis, his high school sweetheart. As Bob studied furniture design at Ryerson Polytechnique College, he would hitchhike to Brantford every weekend to visit Betty in her nurses' training. They could hardly wait to finally marry in 1952. Afterwards, Bob attended teacher’s college while Betty worked as an RN and cared for their growing family. Bob and Betty moved to Barrie in 1960 when Bob accepted a position at North Collegiate, where he taught Woodshop and night school for 33 years.

Bob was a multi-talented man who cared deeply about his family, community, and faith. He sang sweet harmonies with the Barrie County Chordsmen for many years and was the Bass in the Silvertones quartet, who became lifelong friends. He enjoyed his weekly woodworking ‘guy’s group’ organized by his dear and faithful friend, Bob Carter, with whom he crafted beautiful rocking horses and other items for charity auctions and cherished gifts. Bob was an active member of the Presbyterian Church - singing in the choir, arranging flowers and decorations for special events, and even bestowing several of the churches in town with hand-carved baptismal fonts, candelabras, and lanterns. He also cherished the beauty of nature and loved cultivating his gorgeous gardens, which he tended all year long with Betty at his side. ‘Farmer Watson’ was meticulous and patient from seed to harvest, and was always generous with his knowledge and bounty.

Bob loved his life with Betty, and they were always kind, caring and quick to laugh together - a genuine example of true love. The couple always wished to remain together in their own home, and this request was faithfully carried out by their loved ones and the wonderful VON PSWs, Michelle and Jean, to whom the family would like to offer special thanks for their dedication and care. Devoted father of Beverly, Janis (Jeff), and Bobby (Joan). Dear grandfather of Rachael, Adam, Tamara, Amy, and many great-grandchildren. His steadfast nature, dedication to service, and wise guidance touched the lives of so many in the community and beyond. Bob will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Friends and relatives will be received at Legacy Funeral Home 55 Cedar Point Drive, Barrie on October 8, 2022 from 10 am until time of Service in the Chapel at 11 o’clock a.m. A private interment at Barrie Union Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Stroud Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.
